Phase / Session(s) Focus & Key Themes

Foundations — Genre & Approach (Session 1–3) Introduces Revelation as apocalyptic literature; reviews features common to apocalyptic writings (visions, symbolic imagery, numerology, cosmic conflict, spiritual realities). Discusses how to study Revelation: balance between literal & symbolic reading, awareness of genre, and interpretive humility.
Biblical Literacy

Context — Old Testament Links & Canon Background (Session 2–4) Compares Revelation with earlier apocalyptic works (especially Book of Daniel) to show continuity in symbolic visions and prophetic patterns. Also covers broader issues of biblical canon, how Revelation fits into the Bible-library, and how early Christians used it.

Christ & The Churches — Revelation 1–3 (Session 4–7) Examines the opening visions and the seven “letters” to the churches. Focuses on Christ’s role (“Alpha & Omega,” exalted Lamb), the meaning of the “seven lampstands and stars,” and the moral/spiritual exhortations directed to the early churches (faithfulness, perseverance, repentance, love, purity).

Heaven, Worship & Cosmic Scope — Revelation 4–5 (Session 8) Delves into the “heavenly throne-room” vision: God’s sovereignty, Christ as the slain-but-living Lamb worthy to open the scroll, cosmic praise, and the beginning of the unfolding divine plan. Emphasizes God’s reign over all creation and the centrality of Christ.

Judgment & Salvation — Seals, Trumpets, Bowls (Chapters 6–11 & beyond) (Sessions 10–18) Covers the series of visions: seven seals, seven trumpets, and later the bowls of wrath. Interprets these not simply as linear predictions but as symbolic cycles — portraying cosmic conflict, divine judgment, spiritual warfare, and God’s ultimate justice. Emphasis on comfort for the church, hope amid persecution, and warning against spiritual complacency.

Conflict, Evil, Spiritual War — Revelation 12–14 (Sessions 15–17) Focus on the cosmic conflict: the “dragon,” beasts, deception, persecution, the “mark of the beast,” spiritual resistance. Lessons draw attention to how the forces opposing God work in history and present, and call believers to vigilance, faithfulness, and reliance on Christ despite trials.

Final Judgment, Hope & Eternity — The End, New Creation & Millennium Views (Sessions 20–22) Looks toward the culmination: final judgment, defeat of evil, the promise of a new heaven and earth, the eternal victory of Christ and his church. Includes discussion of various interpretive frameworks for the Millennium (premillennial, postmillennial, amillennial), but centers on faith, hope, and living in light of God’s final victory.
